INTRODUCTION
It is important to balance working effectively with maintaining a high level of well-being. Working long hours with heavy responsibilities can drain energy levels and functionality. Employees often neglect their own well-being while on the job. A high workload depletes mental resources, leading to exhaustion and fatigue. Once these resources are depleted, a period of rest is essential. Aside from evenings, weekends, and vacations, recovery can also happen during work hours through micro-breaks and lunch breaks."
Workers may initiate their own break to manage task-related stress, boredom, or frustration, switching to a different activity to restore emotional balance. Taking breaks or self-interrupting may be a strategy people use to handle workload and improve efficiency. Mini breaks are an efficient strategy for sustaining high engagement and minimising burnout. Taking a break restores the energy needed for high performance and goal achievement.
Incorporate physical activity into your breaks by going for a quick walk, stretching while standing, taking calls on foot, adjusting your desk setup, or grabbing a healthy snack and some water. Taking a short stretching break can enhance blood flow and decrease tension
IMPORTANCE OF BREAK AT WORK
Regular breaks are essential for both in-office and remote employees. Because workers are human, not machines, they must pause periodically to avoid falling ill.
While individual self-care is crucial, companies must also ensure workers get adequate rest, prevent overwork and respect personal and family time to protect employee physical and mental health.
Recognising the importance of workplace breaks is essential for holistic health; they are vital for recharging focus, minimising stress and alleviating physical strain.
Regular breaks are vital for stress management. Work-related tension often leads to irritability, and skipping meals can further trigger exhaustion. Stepping away for a meal or brief rest allows staff to recharge and return with the focus needed for their next task.
Taking regular breaks helps alleviate eye fatigue caused by extended computer use.
